Ecommerce Journal Awards
The best exchanger
of 2009 is:

Liberty Reserve appeared to be scammers. LR accounts are hacked, we do not work with LR anymore!

On February 23 we found 47, 000 USD missing from your account in Liberty Reserve.

Here is the screenshot of our account.

We have contacted LR but during the first two days we received only the replies of support service which were more like the responses of the bots rather than the replies of the human beings. All the messages contained one and the same information: LR does not bear any responsibility for the money stolen from users’ accounts!

In two days after we found our funds missing we were introduced to some Eric Paltz who has allegedly a person from “Business department”. During the following two days that person was dealing with our problem trying to understand how that could happen though no certain information was disclosed to us.

Correspondence history

Also he refused to return us the money that we have managed to block those days.

Then he stopped replying our messages. Probably he learned that the system had been breached and money from clients’ accounts disappeared due to the bugs in Liberty Reserve’s API system. Later on talkgold forum some person posted the information that LR has been hacked and put the approximate amounts stolen. Besides Trainex there were lots of people who have lost large amounts and suffered great losses. The proofs they provided showed the direct evidences of Liberty Reserve system breach.

We have sent a letter to Liberty Reserve with a suggestion to refund the money stolen through no fault of the people suffered, since we thought that it would be the best solution. We added that otherwise we would stop any operations with this system.

In two days Liberty Reserve have posted an update in their blog and announced that that trainexservice.com along with other exchange services that suffered from LR breach is scam and fraud service.

Thought here we would like to note that Trainex worked with Liberty Reserve system from the very day it has been launched. It won’t be an exaggeration if we say that the exchange transaction volumes of Trainex were among the highest ones in Liberty Reserve and it was Liberty Reserve that was recommending using our service on its homepage considering us to be a reliable partner for making exchanges.

And now, as it became known that the simplest way out for Liberty Reserve was to announce the clients (including the exchangers) suffered from that breach scammers, and to deprive them of any reimbursement.

In addition they have stated that one shouldn’t exchange LR with exchangers listed. Though it was silly of them since neither we nor any service listed would make the exchanges anymore.

People living in Ukraine and using the offshore law and their location in Costa Rica as a cover behaved not like the scammers but like the people who live without any principles and knowledge of the business ethics, and who don’t know the meaning of such word as “trust”. And it is trust that underlies the Internet business.

It doesn’t matter whether those people standing behind LR locate in Ukraine or Costa Rica. The important issue is that they look with arrogance at the people who were robbed of their money. It is important to note that alike any business the Internet commerce is built on the generally recognized principles of decency and morality, and the total neglect of those principles by Liberty Reserve resulted in the situation when lots of people have lost their money and they will never enter www.libertyreserve.com in the address line of their browser anymore!

When writing the current message we have received a message from the so-called Eric Paltz who wrote us from the so-called Costa Rica. From his message we learnt that he happened to help us (by throwing dust in our eyes and then keeping mum for several days), and after our request to recover our money he announced us scam and fraud.

Everyone should admit his or her mistake but not to try to correct them by blaming the people suffered.

Who is the scam and the fraud service will judge the Internet society. According to Liberty Reserve it was our fault. Moreover it was said that the exchangers which have a long experience and understanding what the IT security is, were simply attacked by the phishers. But it is a nonsense! We understand that a single instance can be a result of the phishing attack. But it is impossible to imagine that a group of people and companies have lost their money at the same time due to the phishing attacks.

Trainex hopes that the Internet society will draw the right conclusions from this situation. We sincerely hope for the support of all the Internet users and our clients for the sake of whom we successfully operate during 5 years!

Liberty Reserve is safe and secure, and contains 3 passwords, 1st login account number and password, 2nd Login PIN , and 3rd Master Key.
and it's not a bug in Liberty Reserve, it's a thief in your company, someone who makes a New Liberty Reserve account U2527498 (Trainex Corp)
and the thief write in the name Trainex Corp,
someone in your company that can easily open your laptop or PC, and can get the 3 password of Liberty Reserve,
then the thief transfer the money to U1014282 (4fxtrader.biz)
this is not Liberty Reserve fault, its your mistake.

in your company trainex there are employees or someone that can access your Liberty Reserve account,
this man is the theif, and Liberty Reserve is not a thief or Scam,
the man in your company trainex which has the power to enter and access to your Liberty Reserve account who stole your money,
The problem is not because of Bug in the Liberty Reserve system.

We should boycott LR. More importantly we should convince all investment program companies to not allow the LR processor option.

Hi, all. Now a days sincerety is lacking in all parts of public or personal dealings. Now LR. LR never takes any responsibility of hacking. Hackers can have many no.of LR accounts and enjoy others LR by hacking. There is also group which are scamming LR at 55 Indian Rupees by name Liberty Reserve World trade. Their adverisements are exhibited in the gmail Inbox advertisements. Some exchanges sell LR at exhorbitant rates like Entelnova.com. Entelnova.com are very careless in giving bank account nos.for depositing Indian rupees get LR transfered. So, the customers all over the world suffer with loss of their money with the indifference of Entelnova staff. Entelnova never accept their mistake in giving wrong bank account No. but they simply blame their customers to be more careful in tracking Entelnova's mistakes. So, sincerety is lacking in all the spheres of global relationship. Only God should punish these people of their Non-sincerety.

I have an experience in Hacking and security breaching, and i'm sure this is a Bug that was exploited by Russian hackers to make huge transfers from balanced accounts with the knowledge of LR teams and stuff, many evidences proof what i'm talking about, specially the huge transfers without fee made inside LR, also even IF this was made out of the control of LR security team - if it exist already - the money still inside LR system and the 'backed' metal still inside LR appartement -if it exist so- so if there is any high offensive breach , LR will settle it while the offline maitainance and will back the money like before the breach because security system are monitored and their history is being registerd in each transfer , any way , LR team and boss is deeply involved in that and like carding people call it , this is "ripping" as the amount is high and seductive to take without any efforts since many people trusted the liabilty of LR for a while , LR seems with no answer but for sure it is with no single ridiculous explanation like we saw it all , Time Goes on and the Internet society will draw the right conclusions not only for LR but for any service, no matter it last, everything appear up

March 12, 2009, 11:29 p.m.

When their site is not offline, we can learn that the President of Liberty Reserve is Mr. "Amed Mekovar". After some investigations in Costa Rica, we found that Mr "Amed Mekovar" does not exist, his real identity is Ahmed Yassin, citizen from Morocco, living in CR with a residency permit, prosecuted in Morocco for a few delictual operations otherwise called "scams".
We could see Mr Yassin driving his old car Peugeot, a sign that his financial situation is not very good. Ah, he also got short in money to pay the bill some days ago in a restaurant with guests! At least he didn't pay with the $110k he stole to Uwe and I!

Ahmed Yassin is so kind that he made work also Mrs. Sophia Yassine! In muslim countries, Family is a strong concept! Nothing bad here of course, THE question is: "WHY IS THE LIBERTY RESERVE PRESIDENT A MAN USING A FALSE NAME, AND PROSECUTED IN HIS COUNTRY?"

The real director of Liberty Reserve is the sadly famous "Ragnar", Vladimir for his real name. Don't ask why the GDCA came back online yesterday, just when Liberty Reserve is in serious trouble! Ragnar, is a professional scam artist who ran a few hyip, exchange services (goldage.net for example), before deciding to run THE scam: Liberty Reserve.

We are collecting a lot of information that will be brought in the same time to the public, and to the Costa Rica justice. Our lawyers, from one of the biggest company is Costa Rica, are working about the case. In the same time as told earlier, other operations will be conducted. Our goal is clear now: Recover or bring LR down.

To Eric Paltz or whatever your real name is: You promised to a guy that contacted you yesterday, to contact me. So far, no news, after now about 2 weeks I was stolen $70k and despite the 5 messages I sent you through your support system.
You are not only a scammer, but also a liar. I myself always* keep my word: Time is running against you and I *promise* to bring your company *and you, personally* down if you do not payback what was stolen because of your bug. Register this, it is public, you will become very famous soon. Time is running, and every day that ends brings you nearer the end. Inch'allah, ahmed, right?

Hmm, I am investing money in some private fund. They used to accept LR but stoped using it last February. They said that they had encountered some unprofessionalism from LR side and were unsure about they future relationship with LR, and that they expect LR scaming people on big amounts so they dropped it. Personally I haven't had any bad situations with LR but I guess the fund was right.

Firstly, this is important information that I feel needs to be disseminated to the community at large. I am not posting this in various forums out of spite or the fact that my services were recently terminated or the fact that some of my personal address details have been splashed all over the web.

Until recently, I had a technical support capacity with Liberty Reserve. As many people are aware, we have been struggling with some security issues for the past few months. Its important to note that these issues are NOT internal security problems. There has been NO breach of security by staff.

Unfortunately what there has been is a compromise of a hole in our API code and hackers (from Eastern Europe) have used this to access many members accounts and to eventually gain access to the LR members database. This is how they determined which accounts had large balances in them. I know that the corporate policy is that ALL users that lost funds did so due to phishing attacks, but this is really not true.

The reason why we have upgraded our script and security measures and are now requiring you to change your passwords and master keys has nothing really to do with improving anything but it is because hackers managed to get a copy of the LR member database and have been managing to access user accounts. So it was hoped that we could lock them out on mass by having the users choose new passwords without us having to admit fault.

Things at LR are in a dire situation and although (up until I was terminated) we are winning the battle against the hackers we are losing our trust with our account holders and exchangers. In fact, there seems to be a few exchangers who have a vested interest in seeing us fail as they have some extremely close ties to other DGC's as well as the hackers.

I make these statements as I feel its in the best interested of both LR and the community to get these problems out in the light and try and regain some of the trust that we have lost. I'll likely never work for them again due to our differences in ethics but I still hope they beat these Eastern European hackers.

March 10, 2009, 9:03 p.m.

Dear users,

This is the official reply of Trainex company to all questions aroused during our discussion. This public statement will try to clarify the problems that our company faced with payment system Liberty Reserve in chronological order.

On February, 23, 2009 somebody withdrew $47000 from Liberty Reserve account in TrainEx company. The withdrawal was not made through API, as it happened to many other victims of LR security breach. However, all other people didn’t have their API turned on at all, so it means that criminals got access to the full database of LR clients.

TrainEx company is one of the main payers on the electronic currency exchange market. After the investigation carried out by our security service, we concluded that there was only one reason of money theft - the vulnerability in Liberty Reserve system. We have security cameras in our office, the access to LR account is available only to a limited number of employees. The access to LR account is possible from only one computer, on which the administrator closed the access to any other Internet sites. Another prove of our version is that money was stolen on February, 23.

--Trainex Corp

March 10, 2009, 9:03 p.m.

Apart from it, we would like to write about our relationships with Liberty Reserve and how they didn’t want to help us clarify this situation. Liberty Reserve made all possible to delay the solution of this problem, but regardless of their actions and thanks to out quick actions we were able to block $18500 on our account from the stolen amount of money. WM center and London GoldExchange blocked these amounts and withdrew them back on the blocked account in Liberty Reserve system. You can read it in our correspondence history. After Liberty Reserve website didn’t work for 5 days under the maintenance pretence, customer support service didn’t want to answer our request to return $18500 . Their long silence forced us to tell about this situation in public.

We guess that FreshLook is Arthur Budovskiy who tries to deceive community and ruin our reputation. Out business will thrive and grow without Liberty Reserve system, because our reputation (contrary to Bodovskiy’s reputation) is ideal. We don’t state that Liberty Reserve themselves stole this money, but we lost it due to their fault. The behavior of LR in this situation as well as the unwillingness to admit the obvious facts and contact us ruin the reputation of this payment system. In addition, Liberty Reserve refuses to answer the requests to return money made by other users. Liberty Reserve, using Costa Rica offshore company to cover themselves, makes everything they want and runs business based not on the generally accepted moral standards. Instead, it tries to shift blame on users and partners.

--Trainex Corp

March 10, 2009, 9:02 p.m.

As a result, after our company has lost $47000 due the fault of Liberty Reserve, we have the moral right to speak publicly that payment system Liberty Reserve is a fraud company and take actions against them. We understand that we have no prospects to lay a claim in Costa-Rica court, but we think that we can prevent similar incidents with other LR users who can be robbed by fraudsters from LR who think that the offshore company in Costa Rica gave them a green light to do everything they want.

It is possible that some people don’t understand our actions towards Liberty Reserve, but we just want to warn people against using LR, because this situation could happen to any user. Nowadays Internet users are divided into two groups: those who believe in Liberty Reserve fraud and those who don’t. However, we can assure that Trainex would continue to run its LR currency exchange business with the largest money turnover in the world unless we and hundreds of other users didn’t lose money. We work every day with a large number of people and it matters to us what is going on with their accounts. Talking about this question in public, we try to care about your funds, dear clients, which can be stolen from your accounts in Liberty Reserve as it happened with us and other LR users. Decide whether you should work with LR or look for other alternatives.

--Trainex Corp

March 10, 2009, 8:53 p.m.

I am one of the 3 major exchangers whose LR direct sales are declined, one of them has $700k, I assume that the total of both 3 is more than a million USD. LR stole one million USD from their exchangers.

I am wondering if any of you have success in returning (selling) the LR inventories back to LR Company within the last 2 weeks (since 24 Feb 2009)?

My company is trying to dump bulk inventories back to LR Company.

However, LR is asking us to wait first as they are still looking into some matters.

My company have temporarily suspended all LR outexchanges until we feel it is safe to carry on collecting more LR inventories from the public because they are continuously wanting to sell 5-6 digit figure of inventories to us.

So I am thinking if we should continue to wait or look for alternative ways because I am predicting that the longer LR Company drags, the value of LR e-currency will continue to fall like e-Gold in the past which we do not want to see it happen. We want it to remain close to interbank rates.

Caught out with your pants down. I would be mad too if I was no longer regarded as a trusted exchanger by the biggest and most trusted exchanger on the planet. Only a fool would broadcast to the world that they are a no longer a trusted business.

I lost a mere $102 to the scammers at LR but the manageent is not helping matters by keeping mute. What I intend to do is to refer them to relevent anti-fraud agencies in thier country of operation.
Thank you.

Strange that this post came just after LR removed your service from the trusted exchangers list

http://blog.libertyreserve.com/2009/03/quality-assurance.html

And strange that LR attackers are mostly all partners with Perfectmoney, a currency that hasn't prove itself yet (ecommerce-journal and you)

It's hard to say LR company has fault, through I think you are a victim of hacker or internal people, but no proof, so the result is almost predestined.
But you say "LR is a scammer" is not suitable. Maybe LR has some security problem, but I don't think it's an scammer.

As u said the your LR $$ was stolen through API, then the LR history should appear the "API" transaction at the right side of transaction date but I didn't see it. For me, LR still is my priority e-currency.

Hi. I have lost money from my Liberty account...not that big amount as your's but still($ 270.00). They behaved in the same way when I tried to contact them. I just got short notes similiar to each that I must have a bug in my computer. They were not willing to help. Strange was that I made an exhange via an exhange provider and right after the money was on my account...it was stolen to some Svante Poleko...Whoever he is...I don't know..I sent him a message from my Liberty account and asked him to return my money...No reply...I was not surprised. Liberty has a criminal past and I wouldn't be surprised if the still do the same.. I'll never use my Liberty account any more and I'll tell everybody to be very careful with this company.

I'm so shocked by the whole case... never thought that my favorite ecurrency could go down like this in trust :( First I did hope that their lack of public response means that they are plotting a rescue plan in the background... but when that canned reply was issued, it was like pulling the rug below my feet!

wishing all best of luck, we will need it...
